PoroCity is a muti-modular transportational terminal system that intended to promote resilience in the city of Stockholm by creating a site of interaction between the different modes of local transportation system with local inhabitants, which includes human, plants, and animals.
Although the city of Stockholm is gifted with the advantage of 1:1:1 ratio between its urban fabric, green space and water area, our project is located at the very heart of the city where human and the public transportation have lost access to the nature and the waterfront.
The project is based on a travel studio to Stockholm, Sweden. The proposal of building ecologically friendly water bus terminal was part of the development plan of the public transportation system promoted by Waterway 365 within KTH Royal Technology Institute.
The construction of our project is aimed to increase the level of engagement with the waterfront, provide an area of bike storage that encourage the transition between the biking and water bus system, and a carefully formulated rooftop bird sanctuary that formally provide a variety of spatial, daylighting, and moisture quality to meet the diverse species of local birds and plants.
The fabrication methodology takes advantage of the locally found basalt rocks with its multiple weathering and plant growing capacities along with the new development of rock fabrication treatments that involves carving, 3D printing, and casting of our basalt rock composite.
The construction of the terminal complex involves the carving out of the site bedrock where several building components 3D printed from composite material of varies ratio of basalt rock to resin are attached together through bolting and interlocking. The higher intensity of basaltic rock at the lower level provide structural strength and plant growing capacity, while the higher intensity of resin on the higher level provide translucency that benefit daylighting.
